Artist Statement
I am interested in the way pictures form over time, how shadows change shape as leaves blow in the wind, and how we account for the experiential phenomena of such events. I create to feel the rotation of the Earth. I gather source material through chance encounters with forms of dynamic light filtration and extended studies of specific places, particularly within urban green spaces. Through a synesthetic lens, I draw upon a foundation in ballet and studies of alternative photography, the Support/Surface movement, plein air painting, and textile craft to create artworks. I explore intimacy with imagery and place by manipulating the tension between the inside and outside, and blurring the line between two and three dimensionality. The fabric is both a surface and a veil; both sides are painted. As material distillations of location, time, and perception, the artworks explore layers of intimacy with ourselves, each other, and the world around us.
Light is shape; shadow is form.
